Launched in 2021, Meaghan Rubey set out to create an elegant accessory brand that allowed one to show their passion for their alma mater. But as the company grew, the product became recognized first and foremost for its elegance and exceptional quality.
Roubaix's mission is to create exquisite accessories that are handmade in New York and Florida using wild alligators, sustainably sourced from Louisiana and tanned in Georgia.
SUSTAINABLY SAVING LOUISIANA'S WETLANDS
The company directly sources its alligators as part of an effort to preserve Louisiana's wetlands. Louisiana has some of the most pristine wetlands in the world. However, they are under constant pressure. As more than 80% of the coastal wetland habitat in Louisiana is privately owned, a controlled wild harvest program provides an economic incentive for landowners to maintain or enhance important wetland habitat and protect alligators. This program conserves Louisiana’s alligators as part of the state’s wetland ecosystem and provides benefits to the species, its habitat, and the other species of fish and wildlife associated with alligators.
In addition to preserving the Louisiana wetlands, the company supports the sustainability of the traditions and culture of Louisiana dating back hundreds of years. Alligator harvesting has a very long history in Louisiana. Individuals have been harvesting alligators commercially for their valuable leather since the 1800s. This way of life is stitched into the heart of all of our products. We are planning on donating a percentage of our total revenue to non-profits dedicated to saving Louisiana's wetlands once we find the right partner.
